HEALTY LIFE STYLE WITH BALINESE TRADITIONAL MEDICINES

It has been well-known that Bali has plenty of plants and spices which can be used for traditional medicines. Since years ago, Balinese loves to plant the medicinal plants and spices on their yard. This habit is also connected with Balinese life concept of “Tri Hita Karana” precisely the Palemahan concept which describes about the relation between human and their environment. That is why most of Balinese has a small yard inside their house with many kinds of plants. The tradition has been hereditary since hundred years ago. When one of the family members go sick, other members will pick some leaves on the yard and then make it as a traditional medicine. Without chemicals, not too expensive, easy to make, and no side effects. It makes the Balinese traditional medicine exist until now and still preserved by Balinese.

In the other hand, Balinese traditional medicine as well as Balinese treatment have been written in Balinese palm leaves manuscripts since a long time ago. It is called “Usada Taru Pramana” which explain about how to heal diseases traditionally and how to make traditional medicine with medicinal plants and spices. It becomes a unique side of Balinese because when people have moved to modern treatment, they still love their traditional treatment. It is unique, isn’t it?

Therefore, in this blog we will discuss about Balinese Traditional Medicine as well as how to make and how to apply it. There are six ways in applying the medicines which are;

  1. Loloh”, a traditional herbal drink from Bali which is similar with Jamu from Java.

  2. Boreh”, a traditional cream which is spread overall around the wound or on the body.

  3. Simbuh”, another kinds of traditional treatments where the medicine is chewed and then spouted to the wound.

  4. Oles” , a similar treatment with boreh but we can differentiate it by the procedure of how to make it.

  5. Tempel”, the easiest treatment among all where the medicine is just affixed on the wound.

  6. Tutuh”, drop medicines which is immediately dropped on the wound or sucked through the nostril.

Through this blog, we would like to introduce Balinese Traditional Medicines to the society, so that this treatment will be well-known and preserved until our next generations. We also want to let the society knows that using traditional medicines gives lots of advantages rather than using chemical medicines.
